Mwizukanji Sikanyika

Mwizu Sikanyika has over 11 years’ experience in the ICT industry. He started his career in the mining industry after attaining a degree in Computer Science, and later worked for CEC as a Senior Engineer before joining CEC Liquid Telecom where he headed the Engineering department before being appointed as the first Chief Technical Officer. He also holds a BPhil degree in Information and Knowledge management from Stellenbosch University.

Mohammed is one of Al Jazeera’s senior international correspondents based in Doha. He has more than 20 years of experience reporting from across Africa, the Middle East and Europe.
Mohammed has filed exclusive reports for Al Jazeera from many countries including on the Ogaden fighters who have been battling to achieve an autonomous state in eastern Ethiopia. He has also reported from the Rift Valley and elsewhere in Kenya about the post-election violence that rocked the nation, covered conflicts in Somalia and Sudan, as well as the migration crisis in Europe and the conflicts in Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya.
Prior to working with Al Jazeera for 10 years, Mohammed worked with the BBC World service for 10 years where he held the position of Deputy Managing Editor, East and Central Africa.

He is currently the Director General of the Mauritius Broadcasting Corporation, the public service radio and television broadcaster in Mauritius. He has 50+ years’ experience in broadcasting, telecommunications and management.

He is the pioneer of FM Radio and Digital Terrestrial Television in Mauritius. He has played a key role in the development of the audiovisual landscape in Mauritius, leading major national projects at the Mauritius Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) and Multi-Carrier Mauritius Ltd (MCML), from 1975 to 2007, including the launch of Pay TV in 1995.

He held the role the Director General of the MBC, from September 2000 to December 2000. Prior, he served as Managing Director – Engineering, Transmission & Production Facilities and also as Chief Engineer at the MBC. From 2002 to 2007, he was the 1stChief Executive Officer of MCML, the national radio and television terrestrial transmission company in Mauritius.

Amoordalingum is holder of MBA (Surrey University, UK), CBI Graduate Engineer Scholar (UK), CEI Electronic Engineer (UK), Certified BBC Engineer (UK) among other qualifications.

Joel Churcher 

Vice President & General Manager for Africa

Based in Johannesburg, Joel is be responsible for strategy and business development across all BBC Worldwide businesses in the region, including TV and Digital sales, Production and Format sales, Licensing and Publishing, Live Events and the daily management of the BBC branded channels portfolio available on DStv.
Joel previously held a highly successful tenure as Account Director for BBC Worldwide Channels across the EMEA region, steering the advertising sales business in markets such as Norway, Poland and Italy, and latterly as Advertising Sales Director where he was responsible for advertising sales on all BBC branded channels in Western Europe and within the CEMA region, including South Africa.
Prior to joining BBC Worldwide, Joel was Senior International Manager for IP Network, providing media solutions to large advertisers across the portfolio of terrestrial and digital channels within the RTL Group in 11 European markets.

 Milton Nkosi

Milton Nkosi is the BBC’s Africa Bureau Analyst and Correspondent. He was previously the South Asia Bureaux Editor based in Delhi, India, for four years. He was in charge of the BBC’s news bureaux in the region, in countries such as Pakistan, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal and of course India itself. Before that he was Head of Africa as Bureaux Chief in Johannesburg, a role he held for seven years.
Milton joined the BBC in the late 80s just before the release of Nelson Mandela. He covered all the township wars and the subsequent political negotiations that followed, including the first democratic election in April 1994.

He did his journalism training at the BBC College of Journalism in London as well as a management and leadership programme at Ashridge College in Hertfordshire. Milton has covered major wars and stories in Angola, the then Zaire which is present day DRC, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Rwanda, Zimbabwe, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq and many other locations.
Previous figures he has interviewed include former ANC leader Walter Sisulu, Harry Belafonte, former US President Bill Clinton, former UK Prime Ministers Tony Blair and Gordon Brown, F.W. De Klerk, former Nigerian president Olusegun Obasanjo, Thabo Mbeki, President Jacob Zuma and multiple other leaders.
In 2016, Milton was in Tehran, Iran, where he covered President Jacob Zuma’s state visit. He also travelled to Kenya where he reported on the aftermath of the Garissa University terror attacks.

 Faith Mutambi

Minister of Communications – Republic of South Africa

Ms Muthambi is the Minister of Communications of the Republic of South Africa with effect from 26 May 2014. She is a Member of Parliament of the Republic of South Africa and had been a member of the Pan African Parliament from 2009 to 2014.

She served as a chairperson of Thohoyandou BMF branch and remains a member of the branch. She is currently a member of the Provincial Executive Committee of the African National Congress in Limpopo, a member of the Provincial Working Committee and a Convener of the Legislature and Governance Sub-committee.

Ms Muthambi is an admitted attorney of the High Court of South Africa, a member of the Black Lawyers Association and of the South African Women Lawyers Association.

Mallam Is’haq Modibbo Kawu was formally the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Abuja-based Word, Sound and Vision (WSV) Multimedia Limited, a complete media service outfit that cuts across print, radio, television, internet, as well as event marketing, marketing communications and training.

Mallam Kawu has 37 years of broadcasting experience straddling both radio and television. He was among the pioneer staff of Radio Kwara and was the pioneer General Manager of Kwara State Television Service, Kwara TV. Widening his horizon, he had a stint with International Radio and has reported for international broadcasters including Radio France International, Radio Netherlands and BBC World Service.

Mallam Ishaq Modibo Kawu holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication and a Master’s degree in Political Science from Bayero University, Kano.

 Eugenia Abu

Eugenia Abu is the Executive Director Programmes of the Nigerian Television Authority, NTA with responsibility for programming, scheduling, outside broadcast and entertainment content. She is also the chairperson on NTA’s Digital Switch On committee. She has held several positions in the past including Head of NTA News International, Head of Presentation with the Network service of the NTA and Head, Customer Service and Service delivery (SERVICOM) of the Nigerian Television Authority.

A 1981 graduate of English from the Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Eugenia obtained a Masters in communication policy studies from the City University London in 1992, graduating with a distinction. She also holds a Masters degree in Creative writing from the Keele university Staffordshire United Kingdom 2011. She also possesses a Graduate certificate in Education from A.B.U Zaria (1981) and has attended several conferences across the world including the Beijing conference for women in 1995, Cannes Film Festival 2014, 2015 and several other TV markets.

A Chevening scholar, USIS fellow and world traveller, Eugenia is a recipient of the prestigious Nigerian Media Merit Award for best Newscaster of the year 1995. She is also a prize winning writer and Author of two published books, In the Blink of an Eye, a collection of essays which won her the ANA/NDDC Flora Nwapa prize in 2008 for best women’s writing and the critically acclaimed Don’t look at me like that, a collection of poems. Eugenia maintains weekly columns in two national dailies, Tales from the main road, in Business day on Fridays and Five favourite books with Eugenia Abu in The Sunday Trust.
